Wow wow wow what a week!!! As I mentioned earlier CineVegas went down last week and i was out and about so much it was hard to find time to sit down and do anything! But now that it has sadly come to an end I can do a recap of the week and let ya in on some really cool films to look for. So the 1st night I got to see the screening of The Rocker. Very good movie!! Pelnty of long laughs and cast is awesome! That night I got to meet Dennis Hopper, Emma Stone and Fred Armisen!! NO pics at this point because they took my phone and cam(the people later in line kept there though..sigh). So from that night on it was NON Stop movies and parties!! and when i say non stop…im talking every after party…seeing the sunrise WAY to much….and I have many party pics…and my Flickr em up soon..but let me get to the movies 1st
Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson: WOW!! This was a great screening. If you know nothing about Hunter this would be a good start (or Breakfast with Hunter) and if you are like me this will add to what you know about this amazing man!!! Some good insights into his final days and the planning of the gonzo fist statue in Co. This movie is already getting a wide release…so if it gets to you see it!! I promise you wont be let down!!
Choke: Great movie!! I loved the book already and pretty much everything Chuck Palahniuk has done. Again a perfectly cast movie(Sam Rockwell and the amazing Anjelica Huston ) an overall great movie. If you havent read the book the gist of the story is Victor pays the bills by choking at restruants and the preying on the sympathies of the folks that “rescue” him. But of course he is also a sex addict and you get to see that he has had sex with everyone in the hospital where his mom is. This is another movie that everyone will get a chance to see so go…it is definatly worth that ticket price!!
Go-Go TalesSuper super movie!! Story about a strip club owner(Willem Dafoe) and how to save this crazy club. For me….this was an ok film. The cast was pretty good and Dafoe was killer, but the whole thing could have been alittle better……I feel they same way I fell about the past few M.Night movies…super great idea….just poorly done in the end.
Dark Streets: There were 3 movies that made the festival for me and this was the 1st one!! A great movie set in a jazz club in the 40’s. Filled with some awesome music and so perfectly shot!! The story centers around the club owner getting involved with his fathers death and a new beauty of a singer. I dont want to get into to much and ruin the story!! It was well crafted and the cast was AMAZING!!
Happy Birthday, Harris Malden: LOVED this movie!! LOVED IT! this is the 2nd film that really made me happy to be at CineVegas Story about a guy(Harris Malden) who fakes his facial hair…..and is convinced no one can tell. His friends and family never let on….that is until his 25th birthday…..when he gets called out on it. I laughed entirely too much during this screening…great story that never lets you down!! I actually got to meet and hang out with these guys (Sweaty Robot is the best name ever btw)and they were very cool!! And had I not met them I wouldnt have seen the movie!! Eric hooked me up with a ticket to the 2nd screening at Happy Hour..So Eric Thank You So much!!If this gets picked up…and it should…go see it….im serious as soup!
Im only gonna do one more movie…but for me it was the one that made this all worth it!!
Visioneers I could probably do 3 paragraphs on how good this movie is, and how great the guy who made it are!!! So I’ll try to keep my fanboyism in check here….AWESOME awesome movie!! Story revolves and George Washington Winsterhammerman(played PERFECTLY by Zach Galifianakis) who is trying to survive an outbreak of exploding people, his marriage and his job. I again laughed WAY to much while watching this(ok…i saw it twice….yeah i geeked out over it) and really really hope it gets picked up. The cast was SO good and the story was perfectly played out. There are some many things to say about it I dont know where to start really…I can say I find myself flipping the bird to people….pronouce Chaos is a whole new way…and wondering how many minutes of productivity are left till the weekend!! Again I got to meet and hang with the 2 brains behind the film Brandon and JAred Drake as well as Mr. Jeffers D.W Moffett and they were awesome. They handled my fanboy geek out very well
Plus i scored a Jeffers T-shirt as well!!! But check out the site and check the trailer out….I usually dont geek out over much, but I really liked this and really hope it gets the wide release it deserves!!!!
Ok thats all for the movies for now, let me get into the parties and all the insanely famous people I met(some took pics…others kindly said no). Ill start with the everyday party aka CVHQ Happy hour….had a good time there everyday…good food…free drinks and the 5pm 5 min dance party!! This is where i met the Sweaty Robot gang and the Drake brothers and got to spend time talking with them. Is also where i met way too many cool people to list in one sitting(Andi, Jackie, Rodney, Kevin…etc). So the “big” parties were awesome….but in trying to keep this post from being a novel( too late I know) Ill do my fav’s..the Beatles Revolution lounge party was great!! Got to hear an awesome band Low Vs Diamond and take in the sexy staff and hang out with some awesome people. The closing night parties…at Ghostbar and then the Palazzo! Ghostbar for a good primer and then hit the Palazzo for awesome food and more drinks. Met a few more folks there(Chig and Josh etc) and of course the after hours party in the Directors Suite @the Palms….where the night was always capped off perfectyl!!! Always a great party with a killer view and the best bartenders in Vegas(the A Teams knows the deal trust me) and the last nights after party had to be the capper…loads of pics from that night…though i admit i was pretty drunk and some are ok others are crap lol.
I am super glad I decided to go this year. I had the chance to meet some AWESOME people and hope to keep in contact with them after!! Saw some great great films…and partied my ass off!!!
